Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, Mass. - Brockton starter Wayne Lundgren pitched seven strong innings for the victory as the Rox completed a three-game sweep of the Pittsfield Colonials, winning 9-2, in a Can-Am League affair at Campanelli Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Rox kicked off the scoring with DH Clyde Williams' solo home run to lead off the second inning, and added another in the inning with C Chris Grossman's RBI groundout. Brockton put another pair of runs on the board in the third, as RF Keith Brachold continued his recent hot streak with a two-run home run, his league-leading sixth of the season, making the score 4-0.
The following inning, Brockton extended their lead to 5-0 on SS Dominic Ramos' sacrifice fly, bringing home LF Mike Conroy. The Rox then put the game away with four runs in the fifth inning on 2B Scott Wearne's bases-clearing triple and a run-scoring groundout from Grossman.
Pittsfield made it a 9-3 game with a single run in the seventh, another in the eighth on an RBI from CF Daniel Carte, and their final tally in the ninth on RF Angel Molina's solo home run, his second in as many nights.
Brockton efficiently scored their nine runs on nine hits, with Wearne and Conroy both going 2-for-4. Molina went 3-for-4 for the Colonials, scoring two of the team's runs.
Lundgren (2-1) had his third consecutive solid start, allowing just one run on seven hits, fanning one hitter and walking none. Hunter Davis made his first appearance with the Rox since being acquired from St. Paul of the American Association, giving up one run in an inning of work. Matt White (1-3) had a rough evening for Pittsfield, being credited with all nine of the Brockton runs in four innings pitched to take the loss.
The win marked the first time this season that the Rox have either won or lost three in a row. Pittsfield tallied three runs on ten hits for the second consecutive evening.
The Rox stay at Campanelli Stadium and open a three-game set against the Worcester Tornadoes on Friday. Mike Smith (2-1) takes the mound for Brockton against Worcester's Chris Farley (2-1) at 7:05 p.m. The night will feature another post-game fireworks display at the ballpark.
