Luna Makes Mls Debut; FC Dallas Stretches Unbeaten Mark To 13 Games With 1-0 Win
September 4, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Dallas News Release
FC Dallas (10-2-10, 40 pts) stretched its unbeaten streak to 13 games with the win. The Dallas side has the longest unbeaten streak in MLS this season (Los Angeles previously had a 12-game unbeaten streak end with a 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on June 9). The team also has the longest home winning streak in MLS this season with a current six-game streak. The all-time MLS mark for an unbeaten streak is 19 games set by the Columbus Crew from July 3, 2004 to April 2, 2005, while the San Jose Clash/Earthquakes holds the all-time MLS home win streak with 12 games from Aug. 25, 2001 to July 24, 2002.
Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman recorded his eighth shutout of the season. He is MLS's all-time leader in shutouts (91). He currently leads MLS with a 0.61 goals against average. The Dallas side is on pace to allow the fewest goals in club history with only 17 goals against through 22 games. The current club record of 35 goals against in 32 games was set during the 1999 MLS season. FC Dallas has not allowed a goal in 280 minutes. The last goal was scored by D.C. United in the 80th minute of a 3-1 FC Dallas victory in Washington.
Jeff Cunningham scored the 129th goal of his Major League Soccer career in the 47th minute. He is now three goals away from tying D.C. United's Jamie Moreno (132) for the all-time MLS record for goals scored in a career. Cunningham was assisted on the play by Marvin Chavez and David Ferreira. It was the first assist of Chavez's career. The secondary assist was the ninth of the season for Ferreira, who leads FC Dallas.
FC Dallas' Home Grown Player Ruben Luna made his MLS debut when he came on for Cunningham in the 82nd minute.
Brazilian defender Jackson Goncalves made his first start of the season since signing with FC Dallas on Aug. 13. Playing in place of suspended Daniel Hernandez (yellow card accumulation), Jackson started an FC Dallas counter-attack in the 28th minute when he pick-pocketed a Toronto FC midfielder and fed Jeff Cunningham a pass just outside the six-yard box. Cunningham corralled the pass and drilled a shot just wide of the near post. Jackson moved to center back when George John came off early in the second half with an apparent hamstring injury.
FC Dallas was without five of its usual starters Saturday night. Dax McCarty (strained right quad), Ugo Ihemelu (concussion), Milton Rodriguez (strained left shoulder), Daniel Hernandez (yellow card accumulation) and Atiba Harris (yellow card accumulation) all sat out the contest. Hernandez and Harris are slated to return for next week's game at San Jose. The three injured players will be re-evaluated on Monday.
With the win, FC Dallas President and CEO Doug Quinn earned another Get in and Win Charity Challenge victory. The win nets local Dallas charity Dress for Success two 2011 FC Dallas season tickets purchased by Toronto FC COO Paul Bierne. Quinn also pledged four 2011 season tickets to the Frisco Miracle League a few weeks ago, courtesy of childhood friend and Chivas USA President Shawn Hunter. The two wagered the charitable donation on the outcome of the Aug. 21 match between their two sides, which saw Dallas finish on top 1-0. Following the Dallas side's record-setting draw at Columbus, Quinn donated four 2011 season tickets to Lift Up America.
