Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton (Low A -- Midwest League PLAYOFFS)
Clinton 8 @ Cedar Rapids 5
Clinton swept this best-of-three opening round series and now moves into the MWL Western Division Championship series against the winner of the Peoria - Kane County series (which is knotted at one game apiece).
The LumberKings scored seven runs in the sixth inning. MWL all-star Josh Kreuzer, who went 2-5, capped the rally with a three run double. Third baseman Emerson Frostad, catcher Cody Clark and left fielder Andrew Wishy each went 1-4 and each drove in a run during the sixth inning rally.
Craig Frydendall earned the win in relief of Clinton's most reliable starter Brian Mattoon (11-6; 2.87 regular season) who had his worst start of the year, giving up four runs on seven hits in three innings. Frydendall surrendered one unearned run on three hits and a walk before Chris Cordeiro and Jesse Ingram each fired off two shutout innings to seal the victory.
