BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — President George W. Bush will hold a campaign rally at C.O. Brown Stadium — home of the Battle Creek Yankees — on Monday afternoon. More than 10,000 people are expected for the event.

"The advance teams love C.O. Brown Stadium," said Battle Creek Yankees General Manager Scott Sailor. "They think it is the quintessential minor-league baseball stadium and a perfect place for an all-American campaign rally."

Campaign organizers plan to have the Yankees staff serve "ballpark food" — including hot dogs, bratwursts, peanuts and Cracker Jack — to those at the stadium waiting for the president's arrival. Organizers also plan to have staffers shoot T-shirts and hot dogs into the crowd — just like they do between innings at a BC Yankees game.

In addition to packing people into the stands, event coordinators are planning to let people onto the outfield, which Bush will face when he speaks. The president is scheduled to speak at 4:25 p.m. after making two other campaign stops in Michigan.

Monday won't be Bush's first time in Battle Creek — he has driven or flown through the city several times as a candidate and as president — but it will be the first time he stages an event here.

C.O. Brown Stadium is the home of the Battle Creek Yankees — the most successful franchise in Minor League Baseball over the past eight seasons. Battle Creek just finished its 10th season in the Midwest League.
