Lumberjacks Fall to Bloomington in Second Preseason Game

Bloomington, Illinois (September 9th ) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks dropped their second preseason game of the year to the Bloomington Thunder tonight by a score of 6-1.

The first period was controlled by the Thunder, with goals from Jake Slaker, Steven Merl and Logan Lambdin giving the Thunder an early 3-0 lead. The Jacks generated some momentum with a minute to go when forward Rem Pitlick scored his first goal in a Muskegon Lumberjacks uniform. Alex Esposito assisted the goal, and the Lumberjacks headed into the locker room with a 3-1 deficit.

However, that was all the Lumberjacks would be able to generate, as Thunder goalie Hayden Lavigne was able to shut out the Lumberjacks for the remainder of the game, and late in the second period Steven Merl netted his second goal of the game to give the Thunder a 4-1 lead.

The third period was more of the same as the Thunder kept up the pressure forcing Lumberjack penalties and turnovers. Blake Gober and Logan Lamdin added to the Lumberjack deficit in the third period to give the Thunder a 6-1 advantage, and the final score of the game.

The Thunder outshot the Lumberjacks 27-18 and goalie Hayden Lavigne stopped 17 of 18 shots. Steven Merl and Logan Lamdin helped on the offensive end with two goals each.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks look to improve on their preseason this weekend as they travel to Green Bay to participate in the Subway Shootout. The Lumberjacks take on the United States U17 National Development Team at 5:00 pm on Saturday September 12th , and then the United States U18 National Development team Sun- day at 11:00am.
