
Lumberjacks Edge Cutters 3-2; Bangor Completes Series Sweep

Bangor, ME- The New Haven County Cutters (27-30) lost a tight ball game 3-2 to the Bangor Lumberjacks (33-23) on Wednesday night completing their seven game road trip. New Haven now returns home on Thursday night to open up a four game series with the Quebec Les Capitales.
In the 2nd, the Cutters grabbed their first lead of the series as reigning NEL Batter of the Week Kevin Forbes singled and stole second base against current NEL Pitcher of the week Adam Thomas. The Bangor starter then allowed a walk to Billy Rich putting runners on first and second. After a balk advanced the runners to second and third, Ryan Kane delivered a two-out RBI single scoring Forbes with the first run of the ball game.
Forbes got the best of Thomas again in the third, hitting a RBI single plating Hector Lebron and giving the Cutters a 2-0 lead. In the fourth, Bangor cut into the lead on a Donnie Ross solo home run off Ryan Bonesio, making it a 2-1 ballgame.
In the sixth, back to back singles from Donnie Ross and Mark Burke was followed by a Kaz Kohno RBI single tying the game at two. Then in the seventh against lefty reliever Greg McCarthy, the Lumberjacks took a 3-2 lead on a Jose Garcia RBI single scoring Rolando Bello. McCarthy (0-3) allowed one run in his two innings of relief and took the loss.
Lefty Ryan Bonesio pitched a strong game for New Haven, going six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Adam Thomas went the distance for Bangor, giving up two runs on eight hits to improve to 6 and 3 on the season. Thomas retired the last fifteen batters he faced.
New Haven right fielder Darren Ciraco failed to get a hit, snapping his fourteen game hitting streak. With the victory, Bangor takes the season series, seven games to five.
The Cutters return home to open up a seven-game home stand on Thursday July 29th with a four-game series against the Quebec Capitales. Thursdays at Yale Field are Thirsty Thursday's with $1 Budweiser and Bud Light draft beers. After every Friday night home game this summer, a fireworks show will light up the New Haven sky.
