Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan (May 6th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are proud to announce the addition of eight new prospects to the Affiliate List following the conclusion of the 2013 USHL Phase One Draft tonight.
The Lumberjacks used their first pick in the Phase One Draft at 7th overall after acquiring the pick from the Omaha Lancers in a trade to pick Forward Grant Jozefek out of Mendham High School in New Jersey. Jozefek, the Chester, New Jersey product, became the first freshman in the state to score over 100 points in a single season as he finished this past year with 103 points (51 goals and 52 assists) and was the first New Jersey high school product in 13 years to reach the milestone.
The 8th overall pick was also issued to Muskegon, and it would be used earlier in the 2012-13 season to sign Compuware Defenseman Chaz Switzer to a three-year tender in which he will eligible to play for the Lumberjacks next season.
After not having a pick in the second round, the Lumberjacks would go back to the frontline players in the third round and would acquire Forward Jacob Coleman out of Moon Township, Pennsylvania with the 38th overall pick. Coleman spent last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Minor Midget team totaling 47 points (17 goals and 30 assists) in 44 games played.
Prior to playing for the Penguins, Coleman played for the Pittsburgh Hornets Major Bantam Team accumulating 20 points (7 goals and 13 assists) in 27 games played.
On to the fourth round where Muskegon would use that pick on a blue liner in Defenseman Cameron Lee out of Ferguson's Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada with the 53rd overall pick.
The Lumberjacks would move on to the fifth round of the Phase One Draft where they would acquire the 63rd overall pick from the Des Moines Buccaneers in another trade and take Goaltender Callum Booth out of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Callum recently completed his sophomore season at Salisbury High School in New Hampshire, where he helped lead the Knights to their third NEPSHIA Division One Championship in the past eight seasons.
Callum tallied 1,012 minutes with Salisbury this past season with a 2.08 goals-against average to go along with a .924 save percentage.
Muskegon would have another fifth round pick at 68th overall as they would lean on more Canadian talent and draft Forward Gabriel Fontaine out of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. In 37 games played with the Magog Cantonniers Midget AAA team, Fontaine recorded 10 goals and 21 assists.
The Lumberjacks would go on to the sixth round of the Phase One Draft and select another winger at 83rd overall in Forward Owen Green out of Williamsville, New York. Green spent the 2012-13 season with the Buffalo Junior Sabers Tier I Midget Minor team totaling 21 points (5 goals and 16 assists) in 43 games played.
In the seventh round, Muskegon would use the 98th overall pick to select Forward Collin Peters out of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. In his first two seasons with the Sheboygan Red Raiders, Peters registered 88 points (53 goals and 35 assists) in 50 games played.
The Lumberjacks would use their final pick of the Phase One Draft in the eighth round at 113th overall to draft Forward Ty Byce-Pelton out of Verona, Wisconsin. During the 2011-12 season, Pelton-Byce registered 41 points (20 goals and 21 assists) in 24 games played.
Phase Two of the 2013 USHL Draft will take place tomorrow at 5:00 pm.
