INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice added some talented, young depth to their ranks on Monday as they drafted two forwards, three defensemen and a goaltender in the 2013 USHL Futures Draft. The 2013 USHL Entry Draft is scheduled for tomorrow (5/7) with Indy holding the first overall selection as one of its four picks in the first round.
"It was a successful draft tonight. We identified several guys and we picked six players that we are extremely comfortable with," said assistant coach Adam Krug. "They are all pieces of the puzzle going forward."
Overall, Indy picked up four total forwards after signing tenders with forwards Cameron Askew (Cushing-MA) and Denis Smirnov (Wilkes-Barre U16), in addition to six picks in the draft.
Indy added to their D-corps with their first pick (third overall) in the futures draft, selecting Zach Osburn from the Honeybaked U16 squad, the same program that produced current Icemen Josh Jacobs, Alex Smith and Alex Talcott. In 24 contests with Honeybaked, Osburn racked up 14 points (5G, 9A) and 32 penalty minutes and earned a future scholarship to Michigan State University.
The Ice further boosted their blue line, selecting Chicago Mission defenseman Vasili Kolias with the sixth selection in the second round. The Schaumberg, IL native recorded 13 points (5G, 8A) with the Mission.
Other additions in the draft include forwards Adam Marsh (CYA U16) and Troy Terry (Colorado Thunderbirds U16), goaltender Ben Blacker (Brampton 45's) and Jacob Wilson (St. Louis Blues U16).
"Our organization is ecstatic about the talent level of our selections tonight," said head coach Jeff Brown. "So many different things fell into place for us in this draft. All these selection will be future stars on the Indiana Ice roster."
