Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have come to terms with veteran infielder Mark Burke the Northeast League club announced today. To make room for Burke on the roster, the Lumberjacks released INF Benji Solano.
Burke came to the Northeast League in 1999 as a member of the Kash Beauchamp led New Jersey Jackals. That season, the Seattle, Wash. product hit .291 with 5 home runs and 39 RBI. Burke moved the Northern League in 2000 courtesy of a mid-season trade between the Jackals and Fargo-Moorhead (ND) RedHawks. He hit .300 with 17 home runs and 74 runs batted in.
Originally a 26th round draft choice of the Atlanta Braves in 1997, Burke stayed in the Northern League the past two years. This season, Mark hit .184 with two home runs and 5 RBI for the Lincoln (NE) Saltdogs in limited playing time.
"Mark is a proven hitter and has shown that he can drive in runs. We are continually trying to improve our offense, and Mark gives us another big lefty bat in our lineup," stated Lumberjacks General Manager Curt Jacey.
Solano had been held hitless in eight at-bats this season for the Lumberjacks.
The Jacks conclude their series with the Jackals Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. It's WEZQ 92.9 FM Family Fun Day at Mahaney Diamond, meaning that fans may purchase Jack Packs, which include 4 reserved tickets to tomorrow's game, four hot dogs, four programs, a pre-game ball toss on the field, and a post game running of the bases and a party piñata courtesy of Cumulus Broadcasting.
