West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
LANSING, MI - For the third day in a row, the Whitecaps allowed Lansing to put up several runs in the second inning, which led to a second straight loss to the Lugnuts on Sunday, 6-2. Three Lugnuts pitchers combined to allow just three Whitecaps hits in the game and none after the third inning. West Michigan starting pitcher Jeff Hahn allowed seven hits in six innings of work, but six of those hits came in the second when Lansing tallied five of its runs. Beginning with one out in the second inning, Hahn retired 13 batters in a row but took the loss. Lansing rolled up five consecutive one out hits in the second. Josh Lex had the biggest hit, which was a two-run single that made the lead 3-0. West Michigan answered in the top of the third when Brooks Colvin led off the inning with a single and Dusty Ryan followed with a double. Colvin scored on a wild pitch and Ryan came home on a sacrifice fly to left by Nick McIntyre, which trimmed the lead to 5-2. The final Lansing run scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Klosterman in the eighth, which followed a lead-off triple by Eric Neilsen. West Michigan left just one runner on base in the entire game. The Lugnuts stranded just four.
