Lucky Sevens Lift Power to .500 after Doubleheader Win

(Charleston, WV, May 8, 2013): The West Virginia won both games of a doubleheader against the Greenville Drive Wednesday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. The Power won game one 7-3 and game two 7-6 to complete the four-game sweep.

In game one, West Virginia fell behind 1-0 when Mookie Betts hit a solo home-run off Power starter Clay Holmes. The Power responded in the bottom of the inning when D.J. Crumlich walked with the bases loaded to score Max Moroff. Francisco Diaz followed with an RBI single that scored Josh Bell and Stetson Allie. Crumlich scored the last run in the inning on a Raul Fortunato groundout, giving West Virginia a 4-1 lead.

Greenville added two more runs in the fifth to cut the Power lead to one. West Virginia responded in the bottom of the inning an RBI single from Diaz. The Power scored their final two runs in the sixth on Josh Bell's fifth home run of the season.

Thomas Harlan (1-0) received the win by tossing two innings in relief of Power Clay Holmes. Greenville starter Pat Light (2-3) took the loss. In game two, West Virginia scored four runs in the bottom of the second. Wyatt Mathisen scored the Power's first run on a Jonathan Schwind RBI single. Schwind later scored on a passed ball by Greenville starter Jason Garcia. Ashley Ponce hit an RBI single that scored Crumlich. Dilson Herrera hit an RBI sacrifice fly, scoring Ponce from third.

The Power added three more runs in the fifth inning. Allie reached on an error that scored Herrera. Mathisen hit an RBI sacrifice fly that brought home Bell, and Walker Gourley hit a bases-loaded single that scored Allie.

The Drive scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning, all with two outs. With the tying run on base, Bryton Trepagnier came in the game to earn the save by getting Drew Turocy to ground outto short.

Joely Rodriguez (2-2) pitched earned his second win this season by throwing six innings, allowing four hits. He struck out five and did not allow a run. Jason Garcia (2-2) took the loss.

West Virginia concluded their seven-game homestand by winning six out of seven games and are currently on a five-game win streak. The Power will travel to Lexington for four games, then to Hickory for three before returning home Thursday, May 16th to welcome in the Lexington Legends. Orlando Castro will take the mound Thursday for West Virginia's road game against Lexington's Christian Binford (1-2, 3.71). First pitch for Thursday is scheduled for 7:05.
