Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals won in dramatic fashion Sunday afternoon scoring all six runs in the final three frames, sending the Vero Beach Dodgers home with another road loss, by the score of 6-5 at Roger Dean Stadium.

Vero Beach (4-12) was on the verge of capturing their first road victory, but the Cardinals launched an attack against the Dodgers bullpen. The Dodgers road record is now 0-9 on the season.

Both starters failed to reach the fifth inning, as Cardinals starter Mark Michael went four innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, while walking and striking out three. Dodgers' right hander Chris Malone tallied 4 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on six hits, but gained the no-decision when reliever Adam Thomas recorded the final out of the fifth inning.

The Dodgers started the scoring in the second, when longtime major league catcher Pat Borders sent a Michael fastball over the left field fence. It was Borders first homerun of the season, as he came into the game with a .132 average and 2 RBIs.

Michael gave up two homeruns in the fourth, when Xavier Paul lifted one over Sean Danielson in centerfield and two batters later Jamie Hoffman sent a high towering ball over the left field fence.

Palm Beach (11-5) tallied four runs in the eighth inning off Dodgers' reliever Ramon Troncoso. The Cardinals started off the inning with four consecutive hits, with Joe Mather delivering the big blow, driving a two-run double to right field. Mather finished 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Dodgers were one out away from claiming victory until closer Kyle Wilson (0-1) walked Mike Ferris. Simon Williams came in as a pinch-runner and scored on a Joe Mather double that was partially lost in the sun by right fielder, Xavier Paul.

Matt Shepherd led off the tenth with a single up the middle and was pushed into scoring position by Sean Danielson's sacrifice bunt. Shepherd wouldn't be out there long as Juan Lucena singled through the whole at second, giving the Cardinals a late inning victory.

Matt Scherer (4-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to gain the victory, allowing one hit and striking out five.
