Lubin Nets Second Goal of the Year in 4-2 Loss
November 23, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL)
Evansville Thunderbolts News Release
In yet another edition of the Thunderbolts-Rivermen rivalry, the Bolts would put up a strong effort and hold even with Peoria most of the way. Unfortunately, it just wasent enough as Peoria found a way to sneak by with a 4-2 win.
Evansville would score the first goal of the night as Pijus Rulevicius followed up on a perfect rebound off a Brandon Tucker shot to make it 1-0 at 7:09 of the second period. Peoria would respond with a Mike Gurtler deflection to tie the game, and a Dean Yakura buzzer beater in the final second to carry a 2-1 lead into the break. In the third period the Bolts heavily outshot Peoria, 17-8, but the Rivermen would find a way to extend the lead to 3-1. Not giving up, the Bolts put everything to the net late, and would be rewarded with a power play goal to make it 3-2, from Brandon Lubin, assisted by Chase Nieuwendyk with 2:58 to go. With Braeden Ostepchuk pulled, however, Austin Vieth would score an empty net goal to seal the deal, 4-2.
Lubin and Rulevicius scored the Thunderbolts goals, while Ostepchuk finished with 32 saves.
The Thunderbolts head off to Quad City for their first ever meeting with the Storm, puck drop from the TaxSlayer Center is set for 7:10pm CT. The Thunderbolts return home on Friday, November 30th , to take on the very same Quad City Storm.
