LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Thursday, February 19th, 2015) -- Louisville City FC, the new professional soccer team that will kick off its inaugural season campaign on March 28th at Louisville Slugger Field, announced today the addition of two California natives, defender Tarek Morad and midfielder Enrique Montano.
Morad joins Louisville City after a season with USL's OKC Energy where the 22-year-old played in 13 matches for the first year club. Prior to the 2014 season the Chico, California native stayed in-state for his collegiate career, suiting up for the Anteaters of UC-Irvine. Morad led the team with 2,316 minutes played his senior season and was the leader on a defense that allowed the fewest shots on goal in the Big West Conference. Morad helped UCI take home a Big West Tournament Championship and progress to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.
"Tarek has great ball control and physicality," head coach James O'Connor said. "He has the kind of leadership qualities that we're looking for to be one of the leaders on our team."
Montano played his college soccer at San Jose State University. The 22-year-old started 16 games for SJSU as a holding midfielder where he scored a goal and assisted two more in his senior season. In his junior year with the Spartans the 6-foot-1 Salinas, California product led the team in shots with 30 attempted while playing 1,359 minutes throughout the season.
"We see so much potential in what Enrique will be able to bring to our club," O'Connor said. "He's another player we are happy to have signed and know he will play a huge role in our success."
Both players have started training with the club in preparation for the home opener on March 28th.
