Lou Piniella Appearance, Cubs-Themed Giveaway Highlight Third-Annual Cubs-A-Palooza

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - For the third-straight season, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans will host Cubs-A-Palooza on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13. The weekend will feature an appearance from baseball-legend Lou Piniella on Friday courtesy of WMBF and Mix 97.7. On Saturday, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a special Cubs-themed giveaway brought to you by WMBF, 106.5 Nash FM and The Sun News, details of which will be announced at a later date.

Piniella, who managed the Chicago Cubs for four seasons from 2007-10, will be available for a VIP Meet & Greet prior to the game and a one-hour autograph session with fans during the game. A limited amount of all-inclusive Cubs-A-Palooza packages are on sale now and available for purchase here. For just $75, VIPs will receive a "Low-Tide" ticket to both games, a dinner voucher for each game, a wristband for the Meet & Greet and early entry to the park each night. Package buyers must be present to receive the giveaway on Saturday.

Piniella guided the Cubs to back-to-back National League Central Division titles in 2007 and 2008, including a 97-win season in 2008 that earned him the National League Manager of the Year award. In 23 seasons as a manager, Piniella won 1,835 games, the 16th-most victories in Major League Baseball history. He captured six division titles and won one World Series championship with Cincinnati Reds in 1990. Piniella also spent 16 years in the big leagues as a player. During his career he played for four teams with 11 years in a New York Yankees' uniform. He was a career .291 hitter and won the 1969 American League Rookie of the Year award with the Kansas City Royals. Piniella also won two World Series rings with the Yankees in 1977 and 1978.

Friday's game against the Potomac Nationals will begin at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday's game against the Lynchburg Hillcats will begin at 6:05 p.m. with gates opening at 5:00 p.m.

Single-game tickets will be available on March 14 with the first Thirsty Thursday of the season as part of the Season Kick-Off Party. The event includes live music from Julio Navarro, $1.00 Bud and Bud Light drafts, $2.00 craft drafts, and 1/2 price Duplin Winery wines from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, and all fans are welcome to attend.
