Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville, KY - With a playoff berth on the line, Louisville City FC (13-5-6, 45 points) was defeated by the visiting Pittsburgh Riverhounds (10-9-5, 35 points) 1-0 in front of a regular season record 8,414 fans at Slugger Field Saturday night.

The two top attacking units in all of USL were on exhibit tonight, but one may not have known from the ironic and uncharacteristic displays put forth.

The teams combined for only four total shots on goal, with Pittsburgh registering three and Louisville City one.

Despite that odd fact, Louisville City would create multiple chances to score in the first half, but ultimately many were easily collected by Pittsburgh's keeper Calle Brown. The best chance for the home side in the first half came in the 11th minute when City would see a Niall McCabe cross off a corner tipped out to Juan Guzman whose left-footed shot went just high and wide of the post.

The game's lone goal came on a Rob Vincent penalty kick after a Bryan Burke foul inside the box. Vincent calmly slotted his effort to the right corner of the goal past a diving Goodwin who chose to go left. The goal was Vincent's 18th of the season, which ties him with Louisville City captain Matt Fondy for second in the league, and gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 advantage just before the halftime whistle.

The action picked up in the second half in the 58th minute, when Pittsburgh added a second goal on a wide open net after the Riverhounds rounded Goodwin, but the attempt was overruled after the head official consulted his assistant and the play was deemed to be offside.

Lou City would attempt to get an equalizer in the 62nd minute when a handball was called just inches outside of the box. Aodhan Quinn stepped up to attempt the free kick, but his effort would ricochet off the wall for a corner, which was ultimately cleared out.

The best chance for Louisville City to pull out a result came in the 69th minute when a pair of subs linked up on City's best scoring chance. Kevin Cossette's cross from outside the box found Ilija Ilic wide open on the back post, but unfortunately the striker's header would agonizingly thump off the crossbar.
