Austin Aztex News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Austin Aztex took their best shot at a red-hot OKC Energy FC squad, but their goal-scoring woes on the road caught back up to the squad as OKC delivered a 2-0 loss to the Aztex.
The loss delivers another heavy blow to the Aztex playoff hopes in their inaugural USL season. The Aztex, at 8-13-3, sit at 27 points and at least nine points out of the playoff field, pending Saturday's Western Conference Results. Conversely, Energy FC extend their winning streak to five games and can the top spot in the conference and clinch a playoff berth pending Saturday's results.
The Aztex took their best shot against OKC Energy, peppering the goal with 19 shots. However, only five of the shots were on goal, and composure in front of goal was a main sticking point for Aztex Head Coach Paul Dalglish after the game.
"We can't feel sorry for ourselves because it isn't unlucky, it is a lack of composure in front of goals," Dalglish said after the match. "Once we get that right, we are going to be an outstanding team."
Energy FC goalkeeper Evan Newton made at least three diving saves, denying the barrage of shots coming from Kris Tyrpak, Trevin Caesar, and Sainey Touray.
Sebastian Dalgaard gave OKC the advantage in the first half with a quick give-and-go with Christian Duke, freeing himself in space to the right of the Aztex goal and striking the ball past Aztex goalkeeper Cody Laurendi for the opening goal. Danni Konig would extinguish any chance for a comeback when he hit his 20^th goal of the season in the 88^th minute, tying the league single-season record.
The Austin Aztex return to Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex for their regular home season finale on Saturday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. versus Seattle Sounders 2.
