
Los Angeles' Rally Falls Short in Loss to Erie

EL SEGUNDO, CA - Erik Daniels scored a game-high 30 points to lead the visiting Erie BayHawks to a 93-83 victory over the Los Angeles D-Fenders Friday at STAPLES Center.
The D-Fenders got off to a slow start scoring 32 points in the first half, trailing the BayHawks by 12 heading into the locker room at halftime. Los Angeles was able to get back in the game as they exploded in the third quarter by matching their first half output, posting 32 points in the 3rd quarter alone. The D-Fenders cut the lead to 66-64 heading into the final quarter.
The D-Fenders struggled in the final quarter, where they were outscored 27-19. The game was still for the taking in the fourth quarter, but the BayHawks made a decisive push at the end to win the game by 10.
The D-Fenders had a balanced scoring attack led by Dwayne Mitchell and Brandon Heath, who scored 18 and 17 points, respectively. Center Earl Barron had yet another stellar game with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds. On the defensive end, Heath had five steals to keep the D-Fenders within striking distance for most of game.
The victorious BayHawks were paced by Erik Daniels' double-double, 30 and 11 rebounds. Maureece Rice also chipped in with 18 points, six assists, and two steals. The BayHawks' bench production was led by Oliver Lafayette's 10 points and five thefts.
Los Angeles, which failed to reach the 20-point plateau in three of the four quarters in the teams' loss, fell to 16-31 on the season. Los Angeles struggled from the charity stripe, hitting on 17 of 25 free throws. The D-Fenders allowed Rice to explode for nine huge fourth quarter points to seal the game for Erie.
Erie (25-22) will look to capture their third straight win and stay in the hunt for a playoff spot when they take on the Bighorns in Reno on Saturday.
