KNICKS SIGN COURTNEY SIMS TO SECOND CONSECUTIVE 10-DAY CONTRACT
The New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh announced that center Courtney Sims has been signed to a second consecutive 10-day contract. Sims was signed to his first 10-day contract on Mar. 23 and has yet to appear in a game for New York.
SAN ANTONIO'S MAHINMI RE-ASSIGNED TO NBA D-LEAGUE AFFILIATE AUSTIN TOROS
The San Antonio Spurs assigned second-year center Ian Mahinmi to the team's NBA Development League affiliate Austin Toros. Mahinmi, who is recovering from ankle surgery performed on 1/31, joins fellow Spurs assignee Malik Hairston and Toros for the second time this season, having previously been assigned between Nov. 14 and Dec. 2, 2008. The re-assignment is the 42nd of the 2008-09 NBA D-League season. During his first assignment this season, Mahinmi appeared in one regular-season game and scored four points in a 93-91 loss to the Utah Flash. Originally drafted in the first round (28th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft, Mahinmi, a 6-11 center, is in his second season with the Spurs. During the 2007-08 season, Mahinmi appeared in six games for the Spurs, averaging 3.5 points in 3.8 minutes, and was twice assigned to the Toros.
THURSDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS...top performers from Thursday's games:
John Lucas came from off the 14ers bench to be the leading scorer with 24 points. Joe Dabbert and Josh Davis scored 22 points to contribute to Colorado's win, with Billy Thomas (17 points), Trey Gilder (14 points), Dominique Coleman (13 points) and Eddie Gill (12 points) rounding out the double-figure scorers for the 14ers.
Curtis Stinson led the Iowa Energy with 26 points and 10 assists. Player of the Game, Mark Tyndale also chipped in 26 points with Demetris Nichols contributing 25 points. JamesOn Curry added 16 points and Shawn Hawkins was the fifth Energy player to contribute double-digits by scoring 14.
Reno's Rod Benson and David Noel nearly had double doubles; Benson with 21 points and nine rebounds, and Noel with 26 points and nine assists to go with seven rebounds. Gary Hill-Thomas also scored 26 points and Richie Frahm added 13 to round out the Bighorns in double digits.
Vipers center Kurt Looby notched a double-double with 16 total points and 19 rebounds. Jawad Williams led all scorers with 27 and Jared Jordan finished with 21 for the Vipers.
ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENTS: A look at D-League Alumni in last night's NBA games:
Six players with D-League experience competed in three NBA games last night, three as starters.
As a starter for Milwaukee, Ramon Sessions finished with a double-double scoring 18 points and 10 assists for the Bucks.
Philadelphia's Louis Williams scored 21 points as the 76ers defeated the Bucks 105-95.
