St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (May 9, 2008) - St. Paul Saints Justin Lord looked nearly unhittable on Friday night at Midway Stadium and his battery mate Kevin Sullivan provided all the offense he needed as the Saints won for the second straight night 8-2 in front of 5,018.

Lord cruised through the first four innings and didn't allow a base runner until a two out walk to Derek Nicholson in the fourth. Lord's bid for a no-hitter came to an end with two outs in the fifth when Drew Holder singled to right-center. Lord finished the night going 6.1 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits while walking two and striking out three and picking up his first victory of the season.

The Saints offense exploded in the third inning for four runs when Kevin Sullivan led off with a single to left. One batter later Julius Thames singled to right and the bases became loaded when Scooter Jordan reached on a grounder to second and Demetrius Heath's throw to second was wide. Brian Sprout crushed a bases clearing double down the left field line putting the Saints on top 3-0. A wild pitch later in the inning made it 4-0.

In the fourth Pichi Balet singled to center and two batters later Sullivan blasted a two-run homer to left-center, his first of the season, making it 6-0. Sullivan later added a two-run double in the eighth and finished the night 3-4 with four RBI, falling a triple shy of the cycle. Balet had another solid night going 2-4 with a run scored.

Kyle Foster looked solid in his 2.2 shutout innings of relief for the Saints. He allowed two hits and struck out five.

The Saints and AirHogs meet in game three of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Alec Shepherd (NR) to the mound against AirHogs RHP Kieran Mattison (NR). The game can be seen on KSTC-TV, Channel 45 and heard on Relevant Radio 1330. It is Troop to Troop: Cookie Connection presented by TDS Metrocom as boxes of Girl Scout Cookies will be donated to troops overseas.
