SS Brenan Herrera's double scored 2B Derek Schermerhorn in the bottom of the eighth inning and lifted the Wingnuts to a win in game one of the doubleheader with Sioux City. 1B Stephen Pearson had a perfect 2-for-2 game for Wichita with a run scored and three RBI. Schermerhorn chipped in with a 1-for-3 effort and the game winning run for the Wingnuts. Wichita reliever Daniel Caldwell pitched a third of an inning allowing one hit to notch the win.

Wingnuts 1B Stephen Pearson's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning plated SS Brenan Herrera and gave the Wingnuts a game two win and a doubleheader sweep over the Sioux City Explorers. OF Heath Keel and DH Brandon McConnell went a combined 4-for-8 at the dish with three runs scored and four runs driven in to lead Wichita offensively. Keel hit his first home run of the season in the process. Wingnuts reliever Byron Embry hurled 2 1/3 innings of shutout baseball to get the win.

El Paso 7, Shreveport 6

El Paso scored two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth to break open a tight game and held on late to win by a run over Shreveport. The Diablos were led offensively by C Mat Kent who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI and JD Reininger who had a 2-for-4 night with a home run. El Paso starter Beau Hintz went 5 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs on 10 hits to get the win. Chris Thompson hurled 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to notch his first save of the season. 3B Bryan Cooksey went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for Shreveport in the losing effort.

Fort Worth 2, Sioux Falls 0

The defending champion Fort Worth Cats picked up their first win of the season behind a great outing by starting pitcher Pedro Flores. Flores allowed just two hits and struck out five through seven shutout innings to to pick up the win. Flores' performance overshadowed the impressive outing of his counterpart, Sioux Falls starter Ryan Ford. Ford allowed one unearned run on five hits in six innings of work but fell to 0-1. Cats RF Charles Carter did the bulk of the damage at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Fort Worth closer Jon Hunton notched his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Pensacola 7, Lincoln 5

The Pensacola Pelicans used a huge fourth inning to hold off the Lincoln Saltdogs at home to improve to 2-0 this season. The Pelicans scored all of their seven runs in that frame, led by 1B Brandon Sing, who homered. CF Sean Gamble and RF Rafael Alvarez also chipped in with two RBI apiece. Pelicans reliever Carl Scheafer was the beneficiary of that inning, notching his first win of the season. Scheafer relieved starter Dane DeValk with two outs in the fifth and held the Saltdogs scoreless for the next 3 1/3 innings. Pensacola closer Dustin Cameron sealed the deal with a scoreless ninth for his first save this year.

St. Paul 8, Grand Prairie 2

The St. Paul Saints got a great outing from starter Justin Lord, and plenty of run support to back him up, as they rolled to an 8-2 win at home. Lord allowed two runs on two hits and struck out three in 6 2/3 innings of work to move to 1-0 on the year. Saints C Kevin Sullivan was the leader at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. St. Paul reliever Kyle Foster was great in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out five in 2 2/3 innings.
