The Diablos win 11-3

The El Paso Diablos used a strong all-around effort to defeat the Shreveport Sports 11-3 on Saturday night from Cohen Stadium.

The Sports connected against Justin Knoff in the top of the first inning. Justin Humphries belted a two-run homer to left-center field giving the Sports a 2-0 lead.

The Diablos responded in the bottom of the first inning. Walter Olmstead plated Kory Drew with an RBI single and Jorge Alvarez scored on a wild pitch to tie up the game at two.

The Shreveport Sports tied up the game at three in the top of the fifth inning. Ron Fenwick started the rally reaching on a fielder's choice. He advanced around the horn on a wild pitch and a single. Justin Humphries picked up his third RBI of the game with a bouncing ball single down the third base line.

The Diablos broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth with a six-run inning. J.D Reininger highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double and the Diablos batted around for the first time this season. El Paso took a 9-3 lead into the top of the sixth. El Paso extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a J.D Reininger RBI single and a Sports fielding error, making it an 11-3 game.

Justin Knoff (1-0) picks up the victory. He threw six innings allowing two earned runs off of eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Justin Phillips (0-1) takes the loss, he lasted four and a third innings yielding eight runs off of nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Paul Schmidt, B.J Litchfield, and Julio Freites all threw a scoreless inning of relief.

The Diablos will close out their four-game home stand with the Shreveport Sports on Sunday evening at 5:05 PM. Adam Blackley will throw for the Diablos against Matt Clayman. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
