
Lopez Earns Third-Straight Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month Award

BILOXI, MS - For the third-consecutive month, Biloxi Shuckers right-hander Jorge Lopez has been named the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month. This time for the month of August. The 22-year-old from Caguas, Puerto Rico finished the final full month of the regular season, 3-1 with a 1.03 ERA (4 ER/35.0 IP), 36 strikeouts, 12 walks and held the opposition to a .188 batting average in five starts.
Lopez, the Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher concluded his fifth professional season 12-5 with a 2.26 ERA, in 24 starts, adding 137 strikeouts to 52 walks, holding opponents to a .205 batting average. Lopez set personal career-highs this season in wins, innings pitched (143.1), strikeouts and ERA.
The Brewers second round selection in 2011 finished second in the Southern League in ERA, .01 behind teammate Tyler Wagner. He finished tied for first in the league wins, third in strikeouts, first in WHIP (1.10) and first in opponents' batting average. He also allowed the fewest baserunners, per 9-innings pitched at 10.05.
In 15 starts since June 2, Lopez went 9-3 with a 1.54 ERA (5th in MiLB) (17 ER/99.2 IP), 94 strikeouts, 30 walks, 0.97 WHIP (10th in MiLB) and .193 opponents' batting average (5th in MiLB).
Lopez and the Biloxi Shuckers will open the best-of-five Southern League South Division Series on Thursday night at MGM Park against the second half South Division Champ, Pensacola Blue Wahoos. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm. The Shuckers finished with the best overall record in the Southern League at 78-59 and pitching staff led the league with a 3.25 ERA.

The Shuckers have also partnered with First Command Financial Services to recognize a member from the Biloxi Fire and Police Departments as well as a member of the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard. These seven individuals and their family members will be thanked on field before the game and participate in the game's honorary first pitch ceremony.
