Chattanooga, Tenn. - Santiago Perez scrambled home with the winning run on a throwing error by Kevin Sprague (3-2) as Chattanooga scratched together a 4-3 win in ten innings Sunday night at Bell South Park.
Sprague walked Perez and Beattie to open the tenth and fielded Dernell Stenson's sacrifice bunt cleanly, but threw wide of third in an attempt to force out Perez.
Trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Bucky Jacobsen slammed his league leading 12th home run off the scoreboard in left field to tie the game. Kevan Burns drove home two with a third inning triple that put the Smokies up 2-1 in the third.
Stenson singled off Rick Ankiel to drive home Perez in the third inning to tie the game at 2.
Ankiel's fourth start of the season for Tennessee was a successful one. Ankiel threw 80 pitches, 45 for strikes, and 10 of 22 first pitch strikes. The 23-year-old left-hander allowed two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out six and walking six. He threw three wild pitches but using a pick off, a caught stealing, and a double play to get out of trouble. Ankiel left with the game tied at two.
Tennessee and Chattanooga close their series Monday afternoon at 2:15 with Nick Stocks (3-1, 3.67) starting against Dustin Mosely (3-2, 3.97).
