Long Island Signs ML Vet Alex Arias

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 16, 2003) – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced they have come to contract terms with infielder and 10-year Major League veteran Alex Arias.

"Alex Arias is an important addition to our team," said Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "We expect his experience and skill to have an extremely positive effect on our everyday lineup."

Arias begins his seventeenth season in professional baseball and first with the Long Island Ducks. A veteran of 775 Major League games, the 35-year old infielder owns a career .265 batting average with 18 home runs, 196 RBIs and 10 steals for five big-league teams, most recently the New York Yankees in 2002. He was a member of the World Series champion Florida Marlins, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the 1997 playoffs.
