
Patriots Down Ducks on Soggy Evening

Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 5-1 in front of 5,093 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on a rainy Friday evening.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Left fielder Marcus Knight doubled and moved to second on a ground out by shortstop Matt Dryer. Knight came around to score on a ground out by Emiliano Escandon.
Long Island tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Three straight singles by first baseman Doug Jennings, designated hitter Patrick Lennon, and right fielder Mark Whiten tied the game up 1-1.
Somerset regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Right fielder Melvin Nieves drew a walk and came around to score on an RBI double by first baseman Jeremy Luster. Third baseman Jeff Nettles followed with a two-run home run (1) to give the Patriots a 4-1 lead.
The Patriots added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI single by designated hitter Greg Blosser that scored Nieves who singled earlier in the inning.
Patriots starter Jason Dickson (2-1) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on eight hits and two strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Long Island starter Dennis Harriger (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
The Somerset Patriots 2003 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, May 17th against the Long Island Ducks at 7:05 pm. Saturday's game includes B&M Baked Beans Foam Fingers for the first 2,000 fans in attendance.
