
Long Island Nets Outlast Capital City in Overtime Home Opener Win

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (1-1), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Capital City Go-Go (2-1) 109-103 in an overtime win at their home opener tonight at Nassau Coliseum.
Long Island guard Brandon Rachal led the way for the Nets with an NBA G League career and team-high 25 points in 27 minutes, shooting 9-of-11 from the field and 2-of-2 from 3-point range. Additionally, Nets two-way forward Kessler Edwards had a strong game, finishing the contest with an NBA G League career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes and guard Marcus Zegarowski dished an NBA G League career-high 18 points in 26 minutes of play.
Capital City forward Jordan Schakel and guard Joel Ayayi had a strong performance for the Go-Go with 15 points each. In 32 minutes of play, Ayayi had seven assists and 14 rebounds, shooting 5-of-6 from the field. Center Jaime Echenique finished the contest with a game-high 16 rebounds in 30 minutes.
In the first quarter, Long Island got off to a strong start with an 8-0 lead just 1:59 into the quarter. Capital City found its way back to tie the game 11-11 with seven minutes left; the Nets pushed their way past the Go-Go to end the opening quarter 28-27. Capital City came into the second quarter looking to battle its way back, going point-for-point with Long Island. The Go-Go would prevail, outscoring the Nets 54-52 heading into the half.
Long Island refused to go down easy, but its attempts were not enough to keep Capital City at bay. The Go-Go scored 13 points in the first four minutes of the third quarter and ending the period 81-79. Capital City was unable to hold Long Island off for very long, leaving the opportunity for the Nets to tie the fourth quarter 101-101 and pushed the match into overtime.
Long Island dominated the extra minutes of play, outscoring Capital City 8-2 and ending the game with a season-high 109 points.
The Nets will face the Go-Go on Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. ET at Nassau Coliseum.
