Long Island Ducks News Release
(New Britain, Conn.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 5-2 on Wednesday morning in the finale of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.
The Bees jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning against Ducks starter Darin Downs. A RBI single by Jonathan Roof, a RBI double by Norberto Susini and a wild pitch did the damage. Susini's sac fly to right in the fourth and a bases loaded walk to James Skelton in the fifth gave the Bees a five-run advantage.
Long Island plated single runs in the seventh and ninth on a bases loaded walk to Lew Ford and a RBI groundout by Fehlandt Lentini. However, they could not inch closer.
Bees starter Nick Greenwood (2-0) earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out five. Downs (0-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and five walks with four strikeouts over four and two-thirds innings.
