First Sellout Wraps up Bees' First Homestand

The New Britain Bees had the first sellout crowd in team history on Thursday, as the club welcomed 6, 253 fans through the gates of New Britain Stadium, which holds a capacity of 6,146 fans. The Bees completed a highly successful opening homestand with a win over the visiting Long Island Ducks by a score of 5-2 on the first "Baseball in Education" game presented by Whitson's Culinary Group. The win gives New Britain their first series win in franchise history.

"We're very pleased with the way our season has begun," said Bees GM Patrick Day. "We've gotten strong fan support, even in cold weather, had a fantastic opening day and are very excited to welcome our first sellout crowd today. We are looking forward to beginning our next homestand."

The Bees return home Monday, May 2nd to start a four game set against the Sugar Land Skeeters. It will be a "Match Game Monday" at New Britain Stadium with gates opening at 5:35 pm for the 6:35 pm start. The Bees will host their next Baseball in Education game at 10:35 AM on Thursday, May 4th in the series finale against Sugar Land.

In Thursday's game, starting pitcher and Southington, Connecticut native Nick Greenwood native tossed six scoreless innings for the win. The former Major Leaguer allowed just five hits while striking out five and walking two for his second victory of the season. Offensively, the Bees were led by Norberto Susini, who drove in two runs in his first start of the season, including an RBI double, with James Skelton and Jon Griffin adding doubles of their own.

The Bees will head on their first road trip of the season starting tomorrow as they visit the in-state rival Bridgeport Bluefish for the first time during the regular season. Friday and Saturday's contest will begin at 7:12 PM while Saturday and Sunday have a scheduled first pitch of 1:12 PM. The Bees will send Cole Johnson to the mound for his second start of the season tomorrow while the Bluefish will turn to Matt Iannazzo in the series opener.

Bees Buzz: Tim Boyce pitched a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two...Jon Jones got the day off for the first time this season...the five runs scored by the Bees is a season high...New Britain had an errorless game in the field for the first time this year.
