Long-Ball Backs Thompson in 6-1 Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (25-23) used home runs from Tyler Bortnick and Ryan Garko and another strong performance from Jake Thompson (2-4) to cruise past the Jackson Generals (28-20) 6-1, taking a series advantage Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Thompson, coming off his first double-A win, tossed five scoreless innings and struck out a season-high eight to pick up his second win in as many starts. Biscuits' starters have held opponents to one run over the last 30 innings.

After an RBI-single from Garko in the first, Bortnick slammed a three-run home run down the left field line to open up a 4-0 advantage for Montgomery. Garko would add a two-run home run in the seventh to push the score to 6-1 Biscuits. Bortnick finished 2-4 with three RBI. Garko went 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored.

James Paxton (3-3) only tossed 2.2 innings for the Generals while giving up four runs on four hits and five walks in the loss.

The Biscuits will look for a series win in game four Saturday night at 7:05. RHP Alex Colome will make his first start since going to the disabled list. RHP Brandon Maurer will start for Jackson.
