
Montgomery's Big First Inning Costs Generals

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (MAY 25, 2012) - The Montgomery Biscuits scored four runs in the first inning on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium, and never looked back. Montgomery (25-23) won the third game of the set, 6-1 over the Generals (28-20). The Biscuits lead the series 2-1. The Generals maintain their two-game lead in the North Division, despite the loss.
Ryan Garko continued his hot series Friday with an RBI single in the first inning and scored on a 3-run home run by the next batter, Tyler Bortnick in the bottom of the first inning. The big first gave Montgomery a 4-0 advantage.
General's starter James Paxton (3-3) left after just 2.2 innings, walking off with Jackson trainer Eddie Tamez. Paxton walked five and struck out one, allowing four runs on four hits in the loss.
The Generals picked up a run in the seventh and trimmed the Montgomery lead to 4-1 on a sacrifice fly from Denny Almonte that scored Chris Pettit.
Ryan Garko capped off his night though in the bottom of the seventh with a 2-run home run and Montgomery put the game away, leading 6-1.
Yoervis Medina pitched well out of the pen for Jackson allowing no runs on one hit in 3.1 innings. Medina struck out five and walked one. Gabriel Noriega had a season-best 4-for-4 night at the plate. Eric Campbell was 1for-4 with a double and increased his on-base streak to 18-straight games. Montgomery starter Jake Thompson (2-4) tossed five scoreless innings to pick up his first win since May 3.
The Generals continue their five-game series against the Biscuits on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT. RHP Brandon Maurer (2-1, 4.27) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Alex Colome (1-1, 5.63) for Montgomery.
