San Antonio Missions News Release
Another terrific start from Logan Allen and a well-balanced offensive steered San Antonio to a 7-2 series-clinching win over Midland Wednesday night in front of 5,214 at Wolff Stadium.
Wednesday's series finale opened as a back-and-forth affair. The Missions grabbed a quick 1-0 lead on righty Parker Dunshee in the first on a Kyle Overstreet single to left.
After Seth Brown led off the top of the second with a homer to right, catcher Webster Rivas put San Antonio back in front in the bottom half with a solo dinger of his own.
Midland would use the long ball again in the fourth, tying the game at two when Richie Martin took Allen's 2-1 pitch over the wall in left.
In the home half, San Antonio took back the lead for good on Dunshee (1-3) with Taylor Kohlwey's infield single. On the play, third baseman Nate Mondou's throw to get Kohlwey at first skipped by Brown, allowing both Rivas and Matthew Batten to score.
The Missions created more breathing room in the fifth with a Josh Naylor RBI-groundout and a Michael Gettys' RBI-single in the sixth.
A 6-2 lead was more than enough for Allen, who allowed just four hits and no walks, while striking out seven over a club, season-high seven and two-thirds innings. Allen (10-4) threw 65 of his 100 pitches for strikes in becoming the Texas League's first 10-game winner.
Gettys capped scoring in the eighth with an RBI-single to center off lefty Jarret Martin.
San Antonio (14-11, 56-39) begins a crucial four-game series at Frisco Thursday. First pitch from Dr Pepper Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Chris Paddack (1-1, 2.25) will get the ball for the Missions, while the "Riders counter with fellow righty Edgar Arredondo (0-1, 4.91). Thursday's series opener will be aired on Fox Sports Southwest.
