Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Northwest Arkansas put up six unanswered runs in the final two frames; but fell short in the finale at Hammons Field on Wednesday night by a final of 10-6 to the Springfield Cardinals. The loss extended the Naturals skid to seven straight and the club suffered its seventh series sweep of the season.
Royals' top prospect, Khalil Lee catalyzed the offense in the eighth inning as he turned around a Ramon Santos fastball and parked over the rightfield fence for a solo home run, cracking the scoring column for the Naturals. It marked the first homer in the Double-A career for Lee and his fifth overall on the season.
In the ninth inning, trailing 10-1, Lee drove in a second run on a fielder's choice and Erick Mejia singled to make it a 10-3 game. With two men on and two-out, Kort Peterson cut the deficit down to four tallies with an opposite field, three-run homer to make it a 10-6 score. Springfield was forced to go to their closer, Hector Mendoza to achieve the final out of the game.
Starter, Scott Blewett (4-6, 5.75) suffered the loss. He worked five innings, allowed six runs on seven hits. Dallas Beeler worked the final three innings and allowed four runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Lee finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Peterson finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and his second home run of the season.
The Naturals (39-54/4-20) head home for an eight-game homestand in seven days as the Tulsa Drillers come to town for a four-game set. Left-hander, Foster Griffin takes the mound for the Naturals in the 7:05 p.m. first pitch from Arvest Ballpark.
