Hudson Valley, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades (36-37) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (33-40) by a score of 4-0 Monday night at Dutchess Stadium. The difference in this game was the LHP Derek Loera of the Renegades. Loera pitched a sensational game and left the Tigers offense shaking their heads. Loera pitched six shutout innings and gave up one hit while striking out nine batters. Loera retired the final 12 batters he faced.

The Renegades offense struggled at the plate going 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left six on base. They did though get the hits and the runs when it mattered the most. Eight of the nine batters in the lineup reached base at least once. Seven of the nine batters had at least one hit. C Omar Narvaez (1-4) contributed two RBI's including a two run single in the third inning that put the Renegades in front 3-0. RF Ben Kline (1-3) chipped in with an RBI ground out in the fourth inning.

Not much can be said about the Tigers offense which struggled throughout the entire baseball game. The Tigers had one hit through the first six innings and managed to get three off of reliever RHP Isaac Gil (1) who picked up his first save of the season. The Tigers struck out 11 times in 30 at bats and managed four hits in the game. 3B Jesus Ustariz (1-3) had a triple in the nine inning and pushed his hit streak to a modest three games.

In the first inning the Tigers had runners on the corners with one out when Loera struck out both Ustariz and 3B Brett Harrison (0-4) to end the the threat. It turned out to be a real momentum shift for the Renegades and the Tigers as the Renegades and Loera went on to shutout the Tigers and for the Tigers night of misery at the plate.

The Tigers and the Renegades play game two of their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Alex Phillips (4-3, 3.46) takes the mound for the Tigers. The Renegades send out RHP Jaime Schultz (1-2, 3.05). Pregame radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH.
