Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- 17-year old prospect Brandon Lockerby has been recalled from the AAA midget Wheat Kings and is expected to make his Western Hockey League debut Tuesday night when Brandon brings the curtain up on the second half of their 2005-06 regular season against the visiting Regina Pats.

A seventh round selection of the Wheat Kings (138th overall) in the 2003 WHL bantam draft, Lockerby is currently tied with Shayne Wiebe for the club scoring lead with 35 points in 23 games. Among his 35 points - nineteen goals - tops on the team. Of those, seven have come on the powerplay. The Douglas product has also accumulated 53 minutes in penalties.

Lockerby is also one of three Wheat Kings' prospects currently among the AAA Midget League scoring leaders. The others are Jay Fehr of the Pembina Valley Hawks and Nathan Green of the Winnipeg Wild. Green and Fehr were chosen in the fourth and seventh rounds respectively of the 2004 bantam draft.

While Lockerby is expected to dress tonight, several players remain sidelined including veteran centers Jeff Topilko and Tyler Strautman. Topilko is recovering from a broken leg while Strautman is out with a shoulder problem.

Defenceman Mike Cann meanwhile is not expected to play after coming down with a bad case of the flu over the holidays.

However, the news is better for Swedish left-winger John Wikner. The Ottawa Senators' draft pick, who has missed the past six weeks of action (knee, flu) is expected to play his first game since November 18th against Vancouver.

Brandon enters Tuesday's game with a record of 10-19-4-1, good for 25 points and a share of the fourth and final playoff spot in the WHL's Eastern Division with the Prince Albert Raiders. The Wheat Kings, who are coming off a 2-0 victory over the Red Deer Rebels on December 16th, have compiled a 5-3-2 record during their last ten games.

Puck drop Tuesday night is 7:00 p.m.
