The expansion Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) have announced the formation of an advisory committee to represent the hockey club in the Greater Fredericton area.

Chairperson Rick Buckingham said Sea Dogs are anxious to establish themselves as a regional team that attracts fans from throughout Southern New Brunswick.

"We will be the eyes and ears of the Sea Dogs locally," said Buckingham. "We believe there is significant interest within the Fredericton region in Major Junior Hockey generally and with the Sea Dogs in particular. There's a lot of local buzz about the Sea Dogs acquisition last week of Ryan Murphy and the drafting of Dan Snow."

Murphy, a Fredericton native, was the Sea Dogs second choice in the QMJHL Expansion Draft. The 6'3" centre was acquired from the Lewiston MAINEiacs. Snow, a 6'0 centre, played last season with the Fredericton Darcy Simon Canadiens. He was acquired by the Sea Dogs in the 14th round of the QMJHL Entry Draft.

In addition to Buckingham, the 11-member Sea Dogs advisory board comprises of Norm Betts, Lee MacPherson, Albert Jamieson, Brian Johnson, John Townsend, Dax Maclean, Ryan Burgoyne, Marc LeBlanc, Brian Stewart and Jim Jeffrey.

The Sea Dogs open their training camp at Harbour Station on August 12. Their inaugural season opener will occur September 16 when the Sea Dogs host the St. John's Fog Devils.
