QMJHL officially adopts education policy
Published on June 8, 2005 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, June 8th, 2005 (QMJHL) â The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today, following the conclusion of its Annual Session in Chicoutimi, that its education policy is currently in effect.
The policy's goal, since its adoption on June 1st of this year, is as follows: â'To make sure that the player benefits from an opportunity to maximize his development as well as protect his integrity related to his physical abilities and his mental condition, and to continue his top-quality academic education in order to allow the player to go on studying normally following his junior hockey career.''
The League put its education policy in writing, thus consolidating its efforts with those of its teams. It establishes academic guidelines that each organization must follow. Furthermore, it allows players to know their respective rights and obligations while they play and study at the QMJHL level. Conversely, it informs teams of their responsibilities towards their players.
Each year, the QMJHL grants more than $300,000 in scholarships to over a hundred of its graduates.
It is possible to consult the QMJHL's education policy on the League's website (www.lhjmq.qc.ca) by looking under the â'Schooling'' menu and then by selecting â'League scholastic policy''. The use of Acrobat Reader software is necessary.
