Little Comes Up Big In 11th Straight Win

July 10, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - His name may be Little, but he put forth a huge effort on the mound for the Edmonton Capitals on Friday night in a rain-shortened five-inning tilt at TELUS Field.

Caps starting pitcher Chris Little only gave up one run and one hit through five innings while striking out three against the Tijuana Cimarrones, while his teammates provided him with six runs of support as Edmonton was victorious 6-1. The win was the Caps' 11th in a row, which is a new franchise best, and upped their record to 27-15.

The Caps and Cimarrones fully intended to play a complete game, but Mother Nature had other plans for the teams, as there were two rain delays thanks to a pair of severe thunderstorms - the first pushing back the start of the game by an hour and 45 minutes, and the second forcing the game to be concluded after five innings. Little still picked up the win, though, giving him a 3-1 record on the year.

"A win is a win, but I definitely would have liked to get a few more innings under my belt," said Little, a 28-year-old righty from St. Louis, Missouri. "At the end of the day, though, it just feels good to get another win and extend our streak. It took me a little while to get comfortable after the first rain delay, but once I got going, I definitely felt good out there."

Oddly enough, Little has had three scheduled starts at TELUS Field this season, all of which have been delayed by rain.

"The guys on the team like to call me Rainman," the pitcher laughed. "The rain just seems to follow me here."

The fifth-and-final game of the Capitals' homestand against the Cimarrones is set for Saturday with a 7 p.m. start time, as Edmonton goes for a clean sweep of their foes from Mexico. The Caps have outscored the Cimarrones 41-21 so far in the series.

In addition to being the final game of the homestand, Saturday is also Family Sleep-Over Night, as fans are invited to camp out in centre field for the night. It's also another edition of EZ Rock Saturday Night Movies, with E.T. playing on a giant screen after the game.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
