Ayala's Four Perfect Innings Hold Narrow Lead

July 10, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. (July 10, 2010) - Manny Ayala retired all 12 batters he faced in four perfect relief innings as Orange County edged the Tucson Toros, 2-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Goodwin Field on Saturday. Doubleheaders in the GBL comprise two seven-inning games.

Ayala (6-0) entered a 1-1 game in the fourth inning, and struck out three batters over the course of four 1-2-3 innings for the win.

Tucson scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning, when Lino Garcia singled to score Toros starting pitcher Albie Lopez from second, but Lopez came up limping home from third base and did not continue pitching.

The Flyers tied the game in the bottom of the third when Alex Jamieson led off the inning with a walk, and two batters after a Jake Renshaw sacrific bunt to get Jamieson to second base, Derek Perren doubled him home.

One inning later, Sergio Pedroza drew a walk, and with two outs, Tyler Keeble doubled to cash Pedroza from first to give Orange County a 2-1 lead after four innings, which is all Ayala would need.

The Flyers wore special pink jerseys for St. Jude Medical Center's Paint the Park Pink Night, which were auctioned off during the game to raise money for breast cancer research. The Flyers take on the Toros in the second game of the doubleheader beginning at approximately 7:45pm tonight.
