Dayton Gems News Release

The CHL announced that Dayton's Chris Lipsett is this week's Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week.

It's the first time this season a player from the Gems was named the player of the week. In three games this past week, the forward recorded four goals and an assist. On Saturday, Lipsett recorded his second hat trick of the season with three goals against Quad City in a 6-2 win.

Lipsett has played a pivotal role for the Gems this season. His 22 goals and 27 assists are among the top on the team in both categories. His 49 points for the Gems this season are second only to Mike Vaskivuo.

In addition to his impressive stats, Lipsett has also been a consistent contributor on the ice. In 42 games this season, Lipsett recorded a point in 29 of them. In doing so, Lipsett safely recorded a point in 12 consecutive games from February 25 to March 17.

That streak is the longest such streak this season for any Gems player.

He also recorded a season high four goals against Fort Wayne on February 27. That is also a team high for the Gems this season.

Lipsett is one of two Gems to be recognized by the CHL this season. Jeff Jakaitis was named the Goalie of the Month in February and Goalie of the Week in mid-December. Jakaitis was also the lone Gems player to be named to the CHL All-Star game.

Jakaitis is currently playing for the AHL's Portland Pirates.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
