Lipka disabled, Carroll to Mississippi

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves outfielder Matt Lipka has been place on the disabled list with a left hand contusion, retroactive to May 5. In corresponding moves, outfielder Daniel Carroll was transferred from High-A Lynchburg to Double-A Mississippi.

Lipka, 22, was hitting .189 with six doubles and six RBI in 28 games for the M-Braves. He currently ranks tied for fourth among Southern League Leaders with 10 stolen bases on the year. Lipka was selected by the Bravesin the supplemental round of the 2010 draft out of McKinney High School (TX). He entered the 2014 season ranked by Baseball America as the Braves 24th-best prospect as well as the "Best Athlete" and "Fastest Baserunner" in the Braves system.

Carroll, 25, started the season at Low-A Rome where he hit .342 in 10 games. In six games at High-A Lynchburg, he hit .313. Between both stops, Carroll has five doubles, a triple, two homers and 13 RBI. He was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2007 draft. He spent six seasons in the Mariners system and started the 2013 season with the Independent Lincoln Saltdogs. He was signed by the Braves as a free agent in July 2013.
