B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) In the wake of a wild 19-12 victory over the Montreal Alouettes at BC Place on Friday night, the Lions had more than just a victory to celebrate as GM and head coach Wally Buono tied the CFL record for most victories by a head coach with 231 and running back Martell Mallett established a new team record for rushing yards in a game with 213.
Buono ties former Lions and Als head coach Don Matthews atop the victory pile in his 19th season as a head coach and seventh with the Lions. He also improves his record with the Leos to 78-38-1 in that time.
Rookie running back Martell Mallet enjoyed a dominating performance with a total of 21 carries for 213 yards, breaking Sean Millington's 212-yard record set in 1997 versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders. It was a night of firsts for the Arkansas Pine-Bluff grad who rushed for more than 100 yards for the first time in his CFL career and also hauled in a touchdown pass late in the second quarter to draw the Lions even at seven.
The Lions now prepare for the Alouettes once again as they take their 4-5 record on the road to Montreal for a Sunday afternoon tilt against the Als.
