Lions add draft pick Hameister-Ries and import RB Butchie Wallace

(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that John Hameister-Ries, the team's second-round (15th overall) selection in the 2006 Canadian Draft has joined the club.

Hameister-Ries hails from Edmonton, Alberta and was converted from tight end to guard at Tulsa and continues a rather remarkable career having only started playing football as a senior in high school. He started his final last two seasons at Tulsa including 27 consecutive games earning All-Conference Second Team honours in 2006 and attended Arizona Cardinals training camp this past August.

The Lions also announced they have inked import running back Butchie Wallace. The former Marshall University speedster spent time with Minnesota ('04-'05) as well as New Orleans ('05) before moving on to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europa in 2006. Wallace enjoyed his most effective performance as a pro with a 143 rushing yards and a TD in the World Bowl that season which earned him MVP honors. Most recently, he spent the 2006 NFL season on the practice roster of the Atlanta Falcons.
