The Sugar Land Skeeters took off with flying colors in the bottom of the first inning to back up former major leaguer Roger Clemens (1-0) in his second outing of the season in as many weeks. Dominic Ramos reached on an error from starting pitcher Randy Keisler (4-2) on the first pitch of the game. Keisler dropped a pop-up back to the mound. Ofilio Castro and Jason Lane followed with two singles to load the bases before Josh Pressley cleared the bases with a two-out double into left-center field, 3-0.
Clemens was phenomenal for the second time at Constellation Field two weeks removed from his last start against the Bridgeport Bluefish when he worked three and a third scoreless. This time around, Clemens went deeper into the game to earn the win at the official scorer's discretion. The seven-time Cy Young Award winner notched one strikeout after facing 16 batters while retiring the side in order twice.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Skeeters added one insurance run when Koby Clemens, son of Roger Clemens, smacked a double down the left-field line with two outs and the bases empty for his first hit in his debut. One batter later, Pressley provided the fourth run of the game with a RBI single up the middle, 4-0.
Jeff Farnsworth worked two and third scoreless innings of relief for Clemens allowing just one hit while striking out one before Roberto Giron worked one scoreless inning in the eighth by striking out two of the three batters he faced. Gary Majewski closed out the ninth in a non-save situation retiring three straight after giving up a leadoff single.
