Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - Lynx players will trade in their high tops and basketball uniforms for high heels and dresses on Saturday, July 31 at the second annual 'Catwalk for a Cure' event. The event, held in the Macy's Rotunda of the Mall of America, will raise funds for the Minnesota Lynx Foundation, which aims to increase breast cancer funding and awareness in the state of Minnesota.
"Breast health awareness is a cause that not only is near and dear to everyone's heart, but it is an initiative that the Minnesota Lynx organization and the WNBA have embraced wholeheartedly," said Conrad Smith, Lynx Chief Operating Office. "This event offers our fans a chance to see the players' personalities shine through, all for a great cause. We are proud to once again host this family-friendly event that furthers our mission to raise funds in support of breast cancer education and awareness in the state of Minnesota."
From 2 - 4:30 p.m. the Lynx will transform the Macy's Rotunda of the Mall of America into a fashion show, featuring Lynx players and head coach Cheryl Reeve hitting the runway as they model the latest styles from some of the trendiest stores in Minneapolis. From 2 - 4:00 p.m., guests will be able to bid on memorabilia, experiences and gift cards at a silent auction. Items up for bid will include game-worn, autographed pink Lynx jerseys, which the players will wear tonight, Tuesday, July 27, as part of Breast Health Awareness Night. The fashion show will begin at 3:00 p.m. and last until 4:00 p.m. Lynx players and coaches will be available for autographs for those who purchase the exclusive VIP package following the conclusion of the fashion show. Finally, a ceremony will follow where the Lynx will celebrate this year's recipient of $10,000 grant recipient, the American Cancer Society.
Tickets to the Catwalk for a Cure event are $30 and include a VIP seat, a gift bag, an exclusive meet-and-greet with players and coaches and a commemorative autographed print from the celebration. Additionally, Christopher Straub of Project Runway's Season 6 will be on hand to sign autographs.
