TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have returned defenseman Evan Oberg to the Admirals, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced yesterday.
Oberg, 6-foot, 191 pounds, was recalled by the Lightning on Monday and served as a healthy scratch that night against New Jersey. He was acquired by the Lightning with Mike Kostka from the Florida Panthers on December 2 in exchange for James Wright and Mike Vernace.
Oberg has posted two assists and a plus-4 rating in four games for the Admirals. Prior to being acquired, Oberg played 12 games with the San Antonio Rampage, notching two assists with 14 penalty minutes. Last season, he appeared in 43 AHL games between the Manitoba Moose and Rochester Americans, posting seven goals and 13 points.
Oberg has played in 129 career AHL games with the Admirals, Rampage, Americans and Moose, netting ten goals and 43 points. Oberg has also skated in five career Calder Cup Playoff games, all with Manitoba during the 2009-10 season.
A native of Forestburg, Alberta, Oberg has played in four career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by Vancouver on April 10, 2009. Oberg was then acquired by Florida with the Canucks' third-round choice in 2013 in exchange for Chris Higgins on February 28, 2011. Before joining the professional ranks he played at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
The Admirals will host the Hershey Bears on Friday night at Scope in the Admirals' annual Toy Toss to benefit area charities. Fans are encouraged to bring plush toys to the game to throw onto the ice after Norfolk's first goal. For more details, please visit norfolkadmirals.com.
