Liberty Signs Three Post Players To Training Camp Contracts

NEW YORK, N.Y. [April 2, 2008] - New York Liberty President & General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today that center Tiffani Johnson, forward Jenni Benningfield and forward LaToya Davis have signed Training Camp contracts. As per team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Johnson has served seven seasons in the WNBA, including capturing the Championship with the 2000 Houston Comets and most recently in 2006 with the Seattle Storm. She has amassed a 4.5 ppg and 4.1 rpg average across her career. Johnson was originally assigned to the Sacramento Monarchs in May of 1998. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with an 8.9 ppg and 6.8 rpg career average and two NCAA Championship titles (1996, 1997).

Benningfield, a 6'3" former Vanderbilt forward, spent one season with the Indiana Fever in 2005. She saw action in 10 games in her rookie campaign, averaging 5.2 mpg. Benningfield was selected by the Charlotte Sting in the second round as the 22nd overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft. While at Vanderbilt, she was All-SEC Second Team in her junior and senior seasons and helped lead the Commodores to the SEC Tournament championship twice. Benningfield graduated in 2004 with an 11 ppg and 6.3 rpg career average.

A 6'1" Houston native, Davis graduated from Texas Tech University in 2006 as the No. 1 field goal shooter in Red Raiders history with a .602 career shooting percentage. She is also ranked as the school's 13th all-time scorer with 1,317 total points. In her final year (2005-06), Davis was named a Kodak All-American, All Big 12 First Team and became one of only four seniors in school history to amass over 300 rebounds in a season with 305 on the year. Her career average at Texas Tech was 10.9 ppg and 7.2 rpg. Davis is currently in Greece playing for Apollon and averaging 16.9 ppg, 9.8 rpg and 1.8 apg.

The Liberty will open its 2008 Training Camp on Sunday, April 20 at the Madison Square Garden Training Center in Greenburgh, NY.
