Liberty Set Record Winning Streak To Nine Games

The Liberty extended it's franchise record winning streak to nine games with 78-57 win versus Indiana on Aug. 17. New York limited the Eastern Conference leading Indiana Fever to a season low 57 points in the win, which fell 22 points below their season average of 79 ppg.

LAST TIME AROUND: With a dominant win in Tulsa, the Liberty snapped a three-game skid and gave head coach Anne Donovan her 150th career victory as a WNBA head coach. The Liberty achieved a new franchise high of 14 three-pointers.

PLAYOFF BOUND: Liberty earned third playoff berth in last four seasons and 10th overall postseason appearance with a 107-69 win versus Phoenix on Aug. 14.

CLIMBING THE STANDINGS: Liberty moved within half-a-game of Indiana for the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 78-57 win versus the Fever on Aug. 17. With a win over Tulsa on Thursday, New York will move into a first-place tie with Indiana. New York has three games remaining (8/19 vs. TUL, 8/20 @ WAS and 8/22 vs. CT) and Indiana has two (8/20 @ SA and 8/22 vs. MIN). The season series between the two clubs was deadlocked at 2-2, so in the event of a tie, it will come down to the team with a better winning percentage against Eastern Conference opponents (NY 13-7, .650; IND 13-9, .591).

AMONG THE LEADERS: Several members of the Liberty rank among the league leaders in various offensive categories. Pondexter is third in the league in scoring (21.1 ppg), trailing Atlanta's McCoughtry (21.1) and Phoenix's Taurasi (22.6). McCarville ranks 15th in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game and both Pondexter and Mitchell are in the Top-15 in assists- Pondexter ranking seventh with 4.9 dimes per game and Mitchell, 14th, with 3.7. McWilliams-Frank is sixth in WNBA in field goal percentage (.514). Mitchell leads the league in three-point percentage (.471) with teammate Pondexter ranking fifth (.430). As a team, the Liberty rank first in three-point percentage (.404), second in free throw percentage (.813) and third in field goal percentage (.453).

IT'S DEJA VU: Cappie Pondexter was named the WNBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week presented by Kia Motors, for games played August 9-15. This was Pondexter's fourth Player of the Week award for the 2010 season and the ninth of her career. Pondexter led the league in scoring, averaging 29.5 points while leading the Liberty to a 2-0 record. In the Eastern Conference, she finished tied for third in field goal percentage (.615), tied for fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.500), and tied for first in free throw percentage, converting 22-for-22 free throw attempts. For two weeks in a row, Cappie Pondexter was named the WNBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week, announced August 2 by the league office ... Pondexter earned the honor for the eighth time of her career and third time this summer ... The fifth-year pro led the club to a 3-0 mark last week and into fourth place in the East standings ... Pondexter holds the Liberty record for most Player of the Week honors in a season, in front of Janel McCarville who snagged two back in 2008.
