LHP Tyler Ihrig transferred from Triple-A Iowa; Black placed on the Disabled List

KODAK - The Chicago Cubs announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to tonight's series opening contest against the Jackson Generals at Smokies Stadium.

Left-handed starting pitcher Tyler Ihrig has been transferred to Tennessee from Triple-A Iowa. The southpaw made one start with the I-Cubs on May 12 versus Nashville, suffering the loss despite allowing two earned runs on five hits, adding three strikeouts in five innings of work. The lefty began the season with Low-A South Bend, posting a 1-1 record and 2.16 ERA (4 ER in 16.2 IP) with one save in six relief appearances.

In a corresponding move, right-handed starting pitcher Corey Black has been placed on the Disabled List. Over seven starts with the Smokies this season, the 23-year-old has recorded a 1-2 mark and 3.68 ERA (15 ER in 36.2 IP), adding a team-leading 41 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work.

Tennessee's roster now stands at 25 active players, in addition to Cubs infielder Tommy La Stella, with is with Tennessee on a Major League Rehab Assignment, and a revised roster is attached.

The Smokies begin a six-game series this evening, facing the Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, tonight at 7:05 p.m. LHP Jeffry Antigua (1-1, 2.95) is expected to get the start for Tennessee, while Jackson is slated to send RHP Edwin Diaz (NR) to the hill.
