Late Rally Not Enough, Biscuits Drop Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Biscuits (15-21) rallied from a 10-5 deficit to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth before falling to the Chattanooga Lookouts (23-13) 10-9 Saturday night at AT&T Field.

The Biscuits bounced back from several deficits in the game. Going into the fifth inning, the Lookouts led 5-1. Tommy Coyle ripped a two-run double off the wall in right to make it a 5-3 game. Boog Powell followed with a two-run single to tie the game at five. Chattanooga immediately grabbed the lead back a two-run double by Mike Gonzalez in the bottom of the fifth then three more runs in the sixth to make it 10-5.

The Biscuits climbed back into it with a three-run eighth inning. An error by shortstop Jorge Polanco allowed the first run to score. Patrick Leonard drove in the second run with a sac fly while Justin O'Conner drove in the third run with a groundout.

In the ninth, Daniel Robertson singled into center to drive in Coyle to make it a 10-9 game. With one out Richie Shaffer hit a one-hopper to short which resulted in a game ending double-play.

Johnny Field led the way offensively with two doubles in a three-hit night while Coyle and Powell each turned in multi-hit games.

Game two with the Lookouts is Sunday at 4:15 CT. RH Jaime Schultz will take the hill for Montgomery while Chattanooga will have RHP Tyler Duffey on the mound.
